We previously introduced Reasonal Entries and Reliability Markers; Entries contain the most important information about any content you find on the web, curated and edited by Reasonal community; and Markers help you have quick quality control over any one content you find on the web.
In our previous blog “Stop commenting, start editing”, we highlighted the power of community when it comes to concisely distilling knowledge. At Reasonal, any conversation turns into a constructive collaboration with the assistance of algorithmic methods. Let’s find out how Entries and Markers help foster collaboration within the community.
Algorithms and AI facilitating human collaboration
Algorithms and AI are everywhere today. Without having to ask us, tools and programs know everything about our preferences; which ads to show us, or what partner to choose. However, algorithms can seem non-transparent, hard to correct, and overwhelming.
At Reasonal, we combine the best of community-based collaboration and scalability of algorithmic methods. Our algorithms are specifically designed to work hand-in-hand with users and adjust based on corrections and feedback they receive from users.
We talked to a lot of people like you to find out what the most important contextual information for any digital information would be. We found out that it’s a combination of
- Entries: human knowledge, in the form of user edits, and critical metadata, extracted by algorithms; and
- Markers: objective, scalable insight into the quality and reliability of the sources and content, determined based on how how much users trust them in using them as references and citations.
These algorithms won’t analyze what you read or come to automatic conclusions about what to show you. Instead, they will help refine the Reliability Markers, and assist you in finding valid sources based on what other community members have read and pointed out. In other words, it is the community members who make connections among articles and want to share them with you to make your life easier.
Whether we are talking about the Entries or Markers, both are under the intensive scrutiny of users and can be edited and refined.
Humans are the actual protagonists of Reasonal. Our algorithms are facilitators. This way, we manage to provide you with all the information you need, while maximizing the human touch and minimizing the cold, authoritative feel of algorithm-extracted metadata.
